The Framework
Author: Kylie Welch

Chapter 2
What is a framework?

A framework is a basic structure underlying a system or concept.  Because of my faith as a Christian and the fact that my thoughts are always centred on Jesus, this framework needs to be structured around the underlying system or concept of the Bible.  I am convinced that we as humans can get only the best advice from the Bible.  It contains wisdom, courage, strategy and love all mixed into one very constructive book.

So what else is a framework and how can it possibly benefit me?  One thing I know about myself is that I am not a strategic person.  I have come to know myself as a creative ideas person who loves ‘up front’ activities such as leading people in song, MC’ing quiz nights and running events.  The little details and the strategic thinking behind many things often catches me up.  At the moment I am working with an amazingly detailed person and funnily enough we work well together.  She helps me with the detail and I ensure that the ‘big picture’ of our work is always our main aim.  Speaking of detail, maybe that is why the word budget irritates me.  Budgets have so much detail.  Columns, rows, items.  The small things in life seem to be things that I don’t always see.  A framework is the structure on which I can hang the small details – so, like it or not, I will have to become a detailed person on this project with the ‘big picture’ in mind.  Even if it’s just for this project.  I’m sure it will be a great adventure of learning for me, and hopefully you, the reader.
