Author: J. A. Ashmore

Chapter 1

where are my comrades?

we went to fight for our country

for our family we held so dear

not for hatred of a foreign enemy

not for a check to pay the bills

for brothers, sisters, sons and daughters

we went to war for love

a loud bang, bright flash, a terrible scream

where are my comrades?

medic! medic! the cry went out

but the medic never came

blood and tears, sweat and grime

the screams of the wounded, the cries of the living

the grim silence of the dead

where are my comrades?

i lay here in my foxhole

my bunk, my bed back home

i am alone, so alone

it's always cold, there is no more laughter, no more jokes

where are my comrades?
