Chapter 32
Rose Hips in the Morning Light

by Marshal Gebbie

Stark in freezing winter air
Deeply orange, clustered there,
Rich shades in a cameo
Of black and white in frozen snow.
Warmly shining, softly bright.
Wicked thorns, the stems, adorn
Hoare frost, on the buds, is borne
Atop the ancient root in soil
Where beetle gnaw and earthworm roil.

Exhaling in the frozen air
