Chapter 31
Whatever it is, whoever it is.

“I’m home.” I said as I walked into the living room where dad sat on the couch watching T.V., and mom was tinkering with her laptop and a bunch of paperwork.

“How’d the meeting go, darling?” Mom asked under her gold rectangular reading glass. “Oh, you’re dinner is still on the table.”

“It was fine.” I said plainly. I was too eager to ask about my sister. “How’s Lexi?”

“She’s upstairs,” Mom said. “Jaycee took care of her earlier; he said she was sleeping before he left.”

I stared at mom quizzically for a while, then immediately realized that mom didn’t have the answers to the questions I had in mind. “’Kay, I’ll go check on her later.”

That bastard skipped the meeting to come barging into my house to go lovey-dovey with my sister slash my girlfriend. I thought I warned him enough to keep his hands off her, but I guess guys just know how to be persistent when it comes to beautiful girls.

I stood near the dinner table, staring blankly at my food. It looked appetizing, as expected of mom’s cooking. But I was too worried about Lexi that I didn’t feel like eating at all. “I’ll take a shower first!” I yelled and ran up the stairs like I just burned the kitchen down and I didn’t want to be blamed.

I tossed my bag in front of my door and went to Lexi’s room first.

She was asleep on her side, with her body crunched up like she fell asleep feeling all cold. I tucked the sheets properly on her and propped her extra pillows on the sides. That was the only thing I could do for now, I hated the fact that Jaycee was the one who had the opportunity to take care of her, instead of me.

I sat beside Lexi and touched her forehead. “Good...” I sighed in relief, she didn’t have fever anymore. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to take care of you, baby.” I whispered. “But I’m glad that you’re okay now.” I kissed her hair and wrapped my arms around her sleeping body gently, trying my best not to wake her up. “I love you, I love you so much Alexine. I swear I won’t let anything go between us, whatever it is, whoever it is.”
