Chapter 2
Watch out....dude

The bus pulls into school. I stare enviously at the kids who get their own cars. Believe it or not, Jordan is one of them. "Charlie!" he waves his hand frantically at me. I can see fear on his face. "What's wrong?" I demand, walking over to him. Jordan checks his watch. 8:07. Still 12 more minutes until school starts. He drags me over to his car. "What?" I say again. "It's the Wicked Witch." he says breathlessly. "She doesn't want me there." If his face doesn't give away how scared he is, surely his wavering voice does. "If she does, you're entirely welcome at my house." I say firmly. He nods blankly. He's too scared to process anything. We sit there for a long time. He just stares, while I think of other solutions. When the warning bell rings, I jump. "Don't worry, I'll figure something out." I say before hurrying away.

I quickly run down the hallways, eager to get to biology. And run smack into Melina. Popular girl. Mean girl. Rich girl. Dumb girl. And yes she's also well, slightly....slutty. It describes her all. "Ewww," she says. "Where did you get that outfit? The trash?" she laughs snootily before walking away. Her dronies smirk at me. "Hey dudette." her boyfriend Brad says. Then he turns to me. "Hey dude." I can feel the colour rush into my face. Matt, boyfriend of Dronie#2 mouths "Sorry." I walk stiffly away. I shove my glasses up my nose as I pull out my red folder. Class has already started and the tests are being handed out. First question.

What does biology mean? Give 2  meanings.

1. The science of life or living matter in all its forms and phenomena, especially with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure, and behavior.

2. The study of living organisms, including their structure, functioning, evolution, distribution, and interrelationships.

This test was beyond easy. But not for others.  Jenelle Renswick's eyes slither around the room. I shoot her a dirty look as I slowly encirle my arm around my test paper. twenty-eight minutes pass am I'm done. My eyes scan the room and I see my classmates are having a very difficult time. I smile. I slide out of my seat and make my way to the front of the room to hand in my test paper. But unfortunatly, before I make it there, I slam into Brad Devon. "Watch it....dude." he smirks. I ignore him and walk to the front with my head held high. I refuse to be brought down by him a second time today.

I hand my test paper to Mrs. Rogers. She marks it quickly. "Very good my dear." she smiles at me. It makes me feel good to be her star student. I start to leave but her voice stops me. "Sweetie," she says. "We're holding after-school tutoring lessons today. Would you consider being a tutor?" I hesitate. I might have plans. But then I remember that with all going on in his life, Jordan doesn't have time to study. "Of course." I say, while she says, "You get paid sweetheart. She smiles at me. "Thank you so much," she says. "There are many students who need help, but not very many who can help." Her eyes dart to people like Melina Garde and Brad Devon. I smile, feeling good about myself now. But as I walk back, I swear, Brad literally moves his desk so I can bump into it. "Watch it dude." he mutters. My smile fades.
