Tears & Heartbreak

Chapter 15

I sighed, drumming my fingers on my leg. I wasn't happy. I'd gone to pick up Axel on the way to school... only for Tate to tell me he'd already left. I wasn't stupid. I knew who he was with. I wouldn't mine, if I didn't know what I knew about them. I rubbed my forehead. Why did he insist on torturing me like this? Hill sat beside me. "What's up?"

"Nothing," I shrugged. Then I sighed. Hill patted my arm sympathetically. I heard the door swing open and Hill swallowed.

"Uh-oh," She whispered. I looked up and followed her gaze to the door. I almost wished I hadn't.

Axel was in the doorway, laughing, with Jasper hanging on his arm. I pressed my lips together and looked back down, clenching my fists. What the fuck? Axel and I had talked it over and decided that we were alright, and that he was going to explain to Jasper why he couldn't see him the way he had been anymore. And yet here they were, arms linked, joking about something, openly together. They obviously didn't care who saw them.

How the hell could he do that to me?

Axel sat down beside me, still talking to Jasper. "Hi, babe," I said, quietly. He turned to me, still smiling.

"Hey, hon," He kissed me on the cheek. "You alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, you?" I replied, moving closer to him and putting my arm around his waist. He snuggled into me.

"I'm great, thanks," He said. Then he laughed again. "Jazz was just saying... ah, it doesn't matter, you wouldn't get it. It's about this guy in our building and... well, like I said, it doesn't matter."

"I love you," I murmered, kissing the space under his ear. He smiled.

"Aw, I love you too, baby-boo," He tickled me gently and I laughed. Phew.

That's what I'd been wanting to hear.

Suprise, suprise, Axel wanted Jasper to walk home with us. I gritted my teeth and said yes, of course I don't mind if he does. What else could I do? Axel held my hand, but he talked to Jasper most of the way, rather than me. I gave his hand the occasional squeeze or kissed his cheek gently every now and then. He just turned and smiled or said "Aw, thanks, babe," then went back to talking to Jasper. I knew he wasn't doing it deliberately, but he was making me feel like a third wheel. I was his boyfriend for God's sake. If anyone should've been feeling like that, it was Jasper.

When we were at the end of the gravel driveway leading up to their building, Axel turned round. "Come in?" He asked. I was about to say yes, but he ruined it. "Both of you?"

"Sure," Jasper shrugged.

"Sorry, baby, I can't," I sighed.

"Aw, why?"

"Er... Stevie's working late," I lied- she actually finished at lunchtime today. "I have to pick Paulie up from nursery."

"Oh," Axel sighed, looking satisfyingly disappointed for a couple of seconds. Then he shrugged, smiled and looked up at me. "Well. I'll see you tomorrow then." He kissed me- just a quick peck on the lips. "Bye, sweetheart."

"Bye," I smiled. "I love you."

"Love you," He smiled back at me, then walked off with Jasper. All I could hear was the gravel crunching under their feet and them laughing together. Why couldn't he just tear my heart out?

It'd be a hell of a lot less painful.

I sighed and flopped down on the sofa beside Stevie. She put down her magazine and peered at me. "What's up?"

"Nothing," I shrugged. I sighed. "Actually, yeah, there is. I think Axel's cheating on me. With that Jasper kid I told you about."

"What makes you think that?" She said. I shrugged.

"Well... I know Axel kissed him. Twice," I said. "And he slept with him once. But he said he was going to stop seeing him in that way. And yet, I went to get him this morning, and he'd already left. He walked into the hall linked arms with Jasper and then he wanted me to go to his place after school but Jasper was going too so I said I couldn't. He didn't seem to mind so much."

"Sweetherart," Stevie sighed and put her arm around me. "I've been thinking. Are you sure Axel is the right boy for you?"

"Yes, of course," I retorted, wrinkling my nose. "We were made for each other."

"I know, honey, but he's put you through so much," She kissed me on the head. "He's broken your heart so many times. And you still go back to him."

"That's because I love him," I sighed.

I did love him.

Didn't I?
