Loving You
Author: Lacey Raine

Chapter 13

Axel broke away from my lips long enough to sit me down on the edge of his bed. He sat beside me, putting one arm around my shoulders, playing with the back of my hair, and the other on my waist, his fingers sliding up the back of my tee-shirt. He always got into our kisses in a big way, but this time he was getting a bit too into it, if you get my meaning. "Babe, no," I sighed. "I've told you. I'm not ready."

"Oh come on, Xander, baby," He murmured, seductively. "You know you want me as much as I want you."

"I do," I replied, honestly. "Really, I do, but listen, Axel, baby..." I moved his hands away from my cheeks and held them in mine. I looked him in the eye. "If we do it now... your mum will hear us. You know how risky it'll be if we get caught. I do want to do this, but somewhere we can be alone, just us, with no chance of us getting interrupted or disturbed, okay?" He considered it for a moment or two. Then he smiled.

"Yeah, yeah, you're right," He said, kissing my cheek lightly. "You always are. I'd do anything for you, babe. C'mon. Let's watch a film."

I'd do anything for you, babe...

It was almost as good as 'I love you.'

But not quite.

I sighed as I flopped down next to Stevie in the living room. Her arm went automatically round me. "Stevie?" I said, sighing again. "Can I talk to you?" I'd lived with her for almost sixteen years now, since the day Mum had given up on me. She'd brought several men home over the years. If I had to have this conversation with anyone, it was her.

"Of course," She said, smiling. "What's up?"

"Have you... have you ever been in love?"

"Well. Yes, I suppose I have," She said, thoughtfully. "With a young man named Derek Harper. D'you remember him? You probably won't. You were just three or four years old at the time." I had a vague image of a tall moustached man with dark hair and friendly eyes. "Why d'you want to know, love?"

"And... did you tell him that you loved him?"

"Did he tell you that he loved you?"

"Yes. Why?"

"Who told who first?" I deliberately wasn't answering any of her questions. Out of the corner of my eye I could see that Damon was listening to our conversation. He was a bright kid. He knew what I was getting at. She thought for a minute.

"He told me," She said, eventually. She peered at me. "Xander, have you met someone special?"

"No, no," I shook my head. "I was just wondering. About all this romance and love and shit. Because it's my birthday on Valentine's Day and all that jazz. Mrs Marks calls me Cupid Boy. I just wanted to know more about that kind of thing, is all."

I am such a liar.
