the world within me

Chapter 89

I always thought praise was in sound

Music to His ear

An instrumental melody

To Him would sound so dear

I thought song and singing

Would only count as praise

And rhyming wouldn’t matter

It might just be a waste

Then the pastor spoke of praise

She said it should be noise

Write it out as poetry

Or sing it out with voice

A spark jumped in my heart

When I heard what she said

So all my rhyming wasn’t gone

It was the kind of praise I made

Maybe I have no sound

In the words I write

But surely I know it’s praise

On paper blank and white

The words may seem small

Not impactful and loud

But as long as it’s true

It’s praise without a doubt

Though it may not sound great

But thanksgiving is from the heart

Sincerity matters more

What’s seen when it’s taken a part

But she said praise would never be silent

It’s noisy and loud never soundless

Then when words printed on page

Seemed so senseless

I still believe anyhow

That the words I rhyme

Would be praise if it’s from my soul

When He hears it from time to time
