Chapter 7
The Butterfly * A poem for Naomi Alene*

The butterfly was in the sky

The butterfly had caught my eye

Then it willowed

Then it died

I looked down on it and I cried

The butterfly

The butterfly

The butterfly had died

So beautiful

So graceful

Why must all things die?

The butterfly is nothing

But simply just all the lives

The lives of all the people

The people that must die

The butterfly

The butterfly

It had caught my eye

The butterfly the butterfly

I watched it die

The butterfly

The butterfly

Why do we cry?

The butterfly it simply has to die.
