Chapter 9
i'm just a little bit caught in the middle, life is a story, and love is riddle

I stand outside and wait for her to walk out from the hospital doors. When she does, tears are falling as soon as their soaked up.

She sees me and bolts.

"Oh, Matt..." she sobs, shaking voilently.

"I know, I know." I just hug her, I know whats it's like to lose my mom.

"I have a car." I whisper.

"Do you want to go home?"

I can feel her shake her head against my shoulder.

"Luna Bella?"

She nods and snifs, lifting her head from my shoulder.

I smile and nod. I walk with my arm around her as we head towards the road.

The plane ride was about four hours, well, thats what it felt like. All was silent and still. Adeline was praying, her hands folded neatly beneath her chin, mumbling something I couldn't hear. I lean forward as she does and pray too. I catch a glimpse of her turning to look at me, I think I saw a smile.

Dear Mom,

Are you mad at me? Having your immortal boyfriend take your humanity is like stealing virginity isn't it? Does that count? Well, i'm sorry I didnt tell you, I didnt want to drag you into my problems. I said i'd see you at home, and I will, because i'll die too. Just wait. Matt is amazing, he reads minds and stuff, you would have really liked him, he's about eighty seven, so I guess you could call him old fashoned. He doesent even mention sex, and it seems he's more against the idea than even you were! haha, well, take care!

Love forever (Now that I have it)

Adeline LeFay Montoya Vinalese

I curned up the note and tied it with the blue ribbon Matt had given me and fasned it to the big balloon.

"Mom had told me that somethimes, you can tie notes to balloons, and then someone you love in heaven will get them and read them when it floats up high enough." I say, smiling at the memory.

"I saw you use your full name." Matt notes.

"I've never really liked my name, it's too girly, but my mom loved it. She got a bit upset when i didnt sign things with my full first name. It felt like I needed to."

Matt nods, understanding and lets his balloon go.

"She'll love that."

I let mine go too.

"I know."

Our balloons mingle and bounce against eachother playfully in the cold October wind.

"I really love you." Matt half smiles.

"I know you do." I grin, winding my arm around him.

"I love you too."

"You were right." he breathes.

"Mhm. As usual." I reply, pulling the fluffy comforter over me and snuggling down.

"I'll kill her myself the second I see her. She's gone way too far."

I roll on my side and look at him, laying on his back on top of the covers.

"What?" He asks.

"You'll get sick."

He notices me motioning to the pillow and looks back at me. He takes a deep, unsure breath and then looks away akwardly.

"Only tonight."

I nod and roll over, facing away from him so he can change.

"Do I still scare you?" I ask, pressing my hand against his chest.

"More now than ever." he jokes.

"I look up at him and then back down.

He sighs and plays with the blanket that covers my shoulder.

"Am I creeping you out?"

"You're tempting me." he confesses.

I give a light laugh and press myself against him.

"You're warm." I note.

"Okay....?" he mumbles.

I'm tired, but too tired to sleep.

I kiss his neck, then he kisses the top of my head.

"Are you still a virgin?" I ask.

He looks down at me, if he could blush, he probably would.

"You're not?"

"I am. Are you?"

"just asking."

"Uh huh."

He breathes, something i've never heard him do. Not this close to me anyway.

"Why do you wanna know?" He asks.

Come on get Higher begins on the radio, I like this song....

"huh? Oh, well, you said I was tempting you, and my moms always been suprised that you havent pressured me into anything, so...... just asking."

"You think I dont like you like that." He states.

Ding ding ding! we have a winner! My brain shouts.

"Well, it's a bit embarrasing to say, but I do. I really do, actually." He swallows hard, as if he could shrug off the akwardness, just like that.

There's a long silence.

I reach up and kiss him, I just want to. He kisses me back, then I kiss him again, then him, then me. Soon were kissing eachother, not like we normally do, something's different. My fingers wind through his hair and his hands trace my spine through my filmsy tank top.

He leans over me, holding himself so he's not crushing me.

His hand slides down my hip, from my thigh to behind my knee, then he pulls it up and links it around his waist. He doesen't stop kissing me.

A picture flashes again, me and the baby, then Matt and the baby.

I shrug away the image, reminding myself that it's not possible.

He lifts his head a bit and I see his face, eyes blazing. He stared at me for a second, then slowly sat up and gazed blankly into space.

"There was another reason. Wasn't there?"

I sigh and run my fingers through my hair and button up the shirt he's already half unbuttoned.

"Dang, speedy much?"

He says nothing. He turns his head a bit to look at me, but his eyes stay glued to the floor.

"Oh." He gasps, eyes snapping up in pure shock, "you think I-!" He laughs, shaking his head in awe.

"Ewe, Adeline. Of all the weird thoughts..."

I dont laugh, I dont think it's funny.

"Adeline, I wouldn't do that. At that time in history, it'd be social suiside."

"Oh, so sleeping with me is social suiside now is it?"
"Of course not!" He snaps, standing when I do.

"Then why'd you stop?"

"Because I thought you felt threatened, I know you hear it in the movies as just another way for guys to get in a girls pants, but I really dont want you to do anything that you'll regret doing. Dont you wanna save it? What if you get married? Dont you wanna save it for him?"

I cross my arms and look him dead in the eyes.

"I am."

"Then why me?"

"I have psycic friends Matt. Rember?"

He takes a second to process, but when he understands, his eyes grow wide, flicker down at me, then down to the floor.

"Really." I smirk. I couldn't help feeling superior now.

"Can I clear up a few things?" He asks nervously.

I motion him on with my hand and sit down.

He sighs, then stands up straight and looks down at me.

"First, I do love you, a lot. But with humans, well, most of them, happy relationships never last. I've always been afraid that you'd get bored or curious. Second, I'll always defend you, even if its something I dont agree with. Also, if there's any secrets between us, you have as much right not to tell as I do. But dont be upset if mine is a bit bigger than yours."

He stopped, looking at me with a look of remberance, pain even.

I stood, placing my marble hands on his marble cheeks and looking into his eyes.

"I promise. If there's anything, i'll tell you."

He smiles, puting his

hands on top of mine and takes a breath.

"We should probably go back home. We've been here three days."

She nods and smiles.

"Lets go."
