Chapter 15

He laughed, an evil, harsh sound.

He motioned behind him, and a pair of men, probably guards from there, came out of the trees, a teenager held between them.

A boy. A boy I knew well.

"Let him go!" I yelled angrily, hands clenching into fists, one still holding the bow.

The man smiled, "I don't think so. I think I have a way to get you back." He gave another signal to the guards, and one of them pulled out a syringe.

Memories suddenly flooded in, clouding my vision.

I woke up, and there was a man. He had hair as black as night, and vivid green eyes. He stroked my hair away from my face, a smile lighting up his features.

He picked up my arm gently, and turned it so the underside was showing. He pulled out a syringe, and slid the needle into my wrist, right where my pulse rested.

Fire burned through my entire body, burning me from the inside out. Changing me.....

I snapped back into reality, pushing the memory to the back of my mind.

He's going to change Aaron. I know he is. But how do I stop it?

As if he read my mind, the man said, "All you have to do to keep the boy from changing, is come with us, quietly."

I hesitated, looking at Donovan. He looked just as scared as I felt, but he shook his head slowely. It's not worth it, he seemed to say without opening his mouth, Don't do it, it's not worth it.

I shook my head at him. It is worth it, I thought, it has to be.

"Tick, tock, Avalyn. I'm not sure the boy would survive, We've never tested it on someone as old as he is. Guess there's a first time for everything,"

I moved slowely away from the group, holding my hands out in surrender. "Drop the weapons," the man said. I obeyed, dropping the bow, quiver, sword, and dagger.

The man made another gesture, and another pair of guards came out of the trees, tying my hands behing my back and pulling a hood over my head. The last thing I remember is a sickly sweet smell........
