Chapter 13
Something's Wrong

It began in the middle of the night.

It had been nearly a month since we'd arrived at Camp Freedom, but I was still a light sleeper. Light enough to be the to be the first in my cabin to hear the noise outside.

I crept out of bed and out the door. That was my first rule broken since that first night. Oh, well.

I scaned the clearing, and saw a figure near the guys dorms. I fell back into the shadows and crept toward it until I saw who it was.

Time for some payback.

"And what would you be doing out here?" I whispered into Donovan's ear, causing him to jump. He stayed silent though. Smart boy.

"I could ask you the same question." He said. His face was entirely serious, nowhere near joking.

I snorted, "Thought I heard something rustling around out here, then All I find out here is you."

His eyes widened, "Avalyn," He said, his voice as soft as possible. "Wake up all the girls. Something is here, something bad."

I sobered up and ran for my cabin, flipping on the lights. "Everyone up!" I said. "Something's here, in the camp. Get ready for a fight."

I rushed to the other girl's cabin and did the same before running back to my cabin. I quickly changed into a pair of sweatpants and a tight shirt.

I didn't have time to deal with a fashion emergency.

I ran to the weapons closet and pulled out my bow and quiver of arrows. I also grapped a dagger, and a sword, just in case. I'd rather have extra weapons and live than not have enough and die.

We all ran outside to meet the boys, who were already taking up battle positions. They were facing the forest in one direction, where the trees an bushes were rustling like there was something there.

And then the other army came out.
