the world within me
Author: Ella

Chapter 69

it takes about a second
to slow down and see the rust
hanging on the door frame
the layer of thick dust

it takes about a minute
to leave your chores aside
and find a rotting cloth
to make the floor mat wide

it takes such little time
to wait a little longer
and come to realization
the rusting came on earlier

it takes perhaps a second
just one unattentive glance
to see for a moment
there is no other chance

it takes less than a second
but our lives will watch it go
we never even saw it
we would never even know

rust takes it own time
each day and night will go
but we never seem to realise
what rusting can really show

i stopped awhile i saw the rust
and i went on but thinking
it was never there before
i had done the gate's painting

years ago i still remember
sitting by the black gate
brushing on a coat of paint
to cover its rusting fate

and there the answer laid
years ago was when i painted
the gate of rust still stands
now dirty and badly tainted

i never thought rusting
was a useful thing to learn
other than helping me save
the material that i earn

but rusting taught me to wait
to recall what really lasts
to paint another coat
and rush on as it rusts
