Chapter 65
Motives of the Dead Hero

Some, on impulse, get involved

They wade into the cause,

Ignoring risk they intervene

And expose themselves to flaws

In human nature and the very fragile,

Very dodgy, realm of chance,

Where a moments bad reaction

Can invoke life's final dance.

It's all balanced on reaction

When the thug commits the crime

The victim screams in terror

And in a moment's frozen time,

In that instant of reaction,

Without thought for life or limb

You commit yourself to God knows what

And you launch yourself at him.

Throwing caution to the wind

Can be a noble thing to do,

It can also be ridiculous

And impact badly upon you.

A moments thought can make the difference

between survival and black death

And a considered course of sanity

May guarantee another breath.

Do the saviours become heros?

Are they remembered through the years?

Do the rescued carve your name in stone

And recount your tale through tears?

Does it pay to stick your neck out?

Are you guaranteed return?

Or is it lost to fame and glory

And that citation on your urn?
