Chapter 49
"Poor Brother Love"?

“Poor Brother Love”?

With the plummeting hillsides in Sichuan
The avalanches covering the town
The children dying in school clothes
And dazed orphans wandering around,
Whole villages lost to the mudslide
Whole families covered in bricks
Who cares enough to be generous?
The poor, the well off,…the rich?

Thousands died in Myanmar
In storm and flood they drowned,
They should have asked the world for help
Instead they shut it down.
The Generals closed the borders
Forbidding foreign aid
As the corpses lay in stinking mud
The rescue workers brayed
Their outrage at this barrier,
Their outrage at this ban,
Frustration for their brothers
In their poor, decimated land.

Who amongst us sprang upright
And volunteered their hand?
Who made a contribution
Of cash or contraband?
Who really cares about the plight
Of distant Asian lands?
When the really urgent thing
Is this high mortgage on your hands.
When the prime preoccupation
Are the ratings In the Poll
And the Governments position
On this years electoral Roll.
When the girlfriend’s wants and wishes
Take priority above
All the problems of the world
And remote…  “Poor Brother Love”?

Shame on you for disinvolvement
,
Shame on you for lack of care.
Shame on you for your disinterest
.... your contribution to despair!
