Giving up the art

Chapter 9
1st position

i pulled open the heavy front door and smiled upon seeing ethieanna. she was in a golden leotard and had casually covered it with a blue skirt. her hair was in a bun sitting neatly at the back of her head. shimmering gold ribbons streamed down her shoulders. i reached out to grab one and she pulled away.

she broke into a dance and leaped around my house. twirling around, even the ordinary stiff starched skirt followed her dance and became a part of her. tomorrow was the day of her competition. the competition she had been dreaming of since she picked up dancing.

"are you wearing that for tomorrow?" i queried and cantered around with her.

she stopped and stared starkly at my ungraceful steps.
"don't hop around like that! please!" she screeched.

i stopped and stood straight with my feet in a v-shape just like how the ballerinas always danced.

she laughed, "you're not a ballerina, only ballerina's stand like that."

my smile broke away. i saw the pride in her eyes. she was indeed a beautiful dancer. i know her words were not meant to hurt me, she just wanted to be special, unique. but everyone was a ballerina, everyone except me.
