Chapter 9
Second Witness


Sitting on the roof of a nearby building, I realised several things as I watched her. She was preparing to lay an egg. She wasn’t alone. And her companion was a HUMAN. Her wings grew, her owl-like skull (that many mistook for a mask) reassembled and her legs would also have changed.


The tiles of the roof below me shattered under my claws. She was letting a HUMAN watch! A glorified monkey should never have the privilege of seeing an egg laying! My wings tore themselves out of my arms, blood spraying haphazardly. My skull broke open and re-formed into a sleek raven’s skull.


“Monkey...” I snarled, feather spikes exploding from my back. My vision turned red.
