Author: Forever Incomplete

Chapter 8

Landing in the woods surrounding the small village, I noticed the tent set up in the town’s square. Retracting my wings, I assumed a more human form to enter the monster-hating town in search of her. I didn’t have to look far.

On the opposite side of the square to what I assume is the bakery, the tent was set up, its door open. A sickly human sat inside, blocking my view of her. Strangely, she had eggs for sale outside. Upon closer inspection, I realised they were harpy eggs. Her eggs.

Leaving the square for now, I wandered the town, amused by the sickly humans.

“Good afternoon, sir. Would you care to know the origin of your ailment?” I asked, smiling.

“Like a youth would know...” he replied gruffly, coughing.

“Believe me or not, that’s your issue,” I sighed, beginning to walk away.

“How would you know…?” the old man responded after a minute.

“The medic in the town carries the disease with her,” I let him know.

“Impossible. Now scram!” the man barked. Amused, I left, letting others know about the cause of their disease.

Ending up back at the square in the afternoon, I watched her pack away.

What surprised me was her companion – a rather dorky looking human. I flinched as she looked in my direction. I think she saw me – she ended rushing into the hotel with the human.
