Chapter 152
Cousin Dear

Cousin can you hear me,

Cousin can you smile ?

Dear cousin you've been off

My distant radar for a while.

It's how we never make the time

To meet and chat about the day,

Inevitably, life's imperitives

Intrude on this in every way.

It's been years since we both sat down

To really chew the fat,

To delve beyond the mundane stuff

And laugh at this and that.

To cry about the tragedies,

To hold each other's hand

And talk about the memories

From yesterday's lost land.

I remember how we ran around

And played the fool as kids,

I recall pinching neighbour's fruit

And was thumped for telling fibs.

I remember most your gentle way

And the sadness in your smile,

And the bruising seen behind your eyes

Which shadows past compiled.

What I really miss is family,

The warmth in being part

Of a bloodline locked in history

And a bonding of the heart.

So cousin dear, let's take the time

To allocate a day,

Where you and I and sister

Can share a damn good beaujoule

And eat a tasty pasta

And talk and laugh and say,

Those easy things of family

To sooth the past away.
