the world within me

Chapter 35
my father's load

my father's load (inspired by my grandmother)

someday i sat by the window
watching the windy road
waiting for my father
to return with his load

the burnished brown lorry he drove
i wished it to pull down the side lane
but as i watched the empty fields
it began to rain

worry filled my little heart
for rain meant one thing
soon the black tar roads would flood
and my father it wouldnt bring

the tyres will sink into the mud
and the engines would brake down
no more would i see my father
though i look everywhere around

i look through the pitter patter
and wonder where he is
my heart heavy with worry
nothing was worse than this

the withering trees dry
the rain brought sure relief
but for me it was a pain
it was a sadness, grief

i sat by the window
and hatred filled the rain
for all it ever meant to me
was prolonged pain

i want to see my father
drive down that dirty road
i want to see him return safely
and help me lift my load
