Lost and Surfacing

Chapter 25

In the abyss of night
With the glorious affairs of the beloved
And the watchfulness of the stars
My face is wet
Tear stains cover my pillow
Swirls of black mascara
Dancing and twisting as if a song
My eyes don't move and I am so still
Not a part of this tango, this waltz, this seductive salsa
But I am not silent
I sing so softly, softer than a covered whisper
Sliding over every note
The background music, simply haunting
A tragic ball, vacant of decor and of the people
Only me in my nightgown
Trying to rest
