Chapter 2
Chapter 2

Sorry of how long this chapter is. And if i made any grammar mistakes, very sorry. I'll be on and off, editing. I'd highly recommend reading this chapter and chapter 3. Many things happen. Please read and enjoy!:)

We didn't have that much time. We just entered Mr. Hallow's costume shop before ten minutes of the start of the party.

Large opening tent entrance, long white pillars on the side, and the desk at the end who you can see clearly, Mr. Hallow. He sat with his feet on his desk near the cashier, with his head hung over. I'm too scared to sleep like that! Couldn't your head crack?

Long rows of neatly placed costumes in bags were all over the tent. Near the tent's walls, the opening space, and near the cashier counter. Many "spooky" masks were near us on a rack right now that me and John intend to make fun of. But right now we didn't have the time.

"Didn't you want to be Flo this year?" John asked pointing to my dream costume.

"Yes, but then for sure Mrs. Hall would recognize me!"

"I thought you didn't care...?" He asked confused.

"Of course I cared! It's like talking to a drunk woman who acts crazy and rude all the time!"

John nodded in agreement, knowing how I felt. Gosh, it was more spooky than the masks of how he knew me so well!

"Then why are we planning on going...?"

I groaned, and gave up. Maybe he didn't understand.

"I don't know," I started, "It's our annual thing. I didn't want not to go. ...And then, when I saw the smile on your face..." I sighed heavily, "I knew you wanted to go,"

John smiled proudly. "I knew you knew me well. ...But not that well!"

"That would be what you're thinking, right? I forgot your birthday..." I smirked.

John let out a loud moaning sound, "Why can't you let that go?"

"It means I'm a terrible friend!"

John rolled his eyes, grabbing the Flo costume.

"We're going,"

I let out a smile at his gesture.

I quickly took the dress that was my size, and opened the girl's dressing room door.

"Wait here," I winked at him, watching him sit down.

I ran into the dressing room, locking the door. As I stood facing the mirror, I couldn't help but wonder what they were doing this year. Yes, there was going to be lots of food in fact. Most likely corn of course, candy corn, apples, and lots of scarecrows. John was more likely a scarecrow this year. A group of guys last year were dressed as scarecrows. John was so jealous!

Ugh! I couldn't get the back button of the Flo dress!

I had to ask someone! But who would be at a girl's dressing room this late at night? No way I was asking John. Everyone would be able to see us, and me! ...In my blue undies! I was wearing a dress that covered it... barely!

I sighed deepily looking around for my phone. I must've left it with John!

"Anyone here? We're closing up!"

It was an unfamiliar voice. Which was strange... Very strange. Everyone knew everyone at the farm. He must've been new. It was a man, I could tell. But I had no choice. It was either him, or John in front of everyone.

"Hi," I replied, opening the door a crack.

The man turned to look at me. I took him by surprise. His face looked so shocked, no doubt. He must've thought no one was in here. He was looking at me crazily for opening the door when I was like totally immodest.

The man's dark thinned eyebrows alligned his dark eyes perfectly straight. His dark hair seemed a little bit messy from jel like substances, which I thought was cute. And his pale peach skin looked really hot with his white t-shirt. He was the only guy on the farm I've seen with no jumper, and he had long straight lines of some tattoo pattern I recognized all over his arms. He was absolutely hot!

"Hey, can you get the last button of this dress off?"

"Sure," His husky voice said.

His voice reminded me of someone... something, but I couldn't figure it out. I wanted to ask but that would just sound creepy.

I felt him slowly releasing the last button of my dress, his fingers tickling my back which sent butterflies quickly through my stomach. I could feel myself suddenly blushing. I knew I wasn't facing his face, but still, I needed to cover my face, and fast! He was a stranger!

I sighed, making my pink cheeks quickly dissappear.

"Thanks," I said, stepping into the dressing room, and quickly shutting the door.

With that he was gone, and I was too breathless to take another quick peek at him.

I grabbed my belongings, making sure I didn't leave anything here.

I went out of the dressing rooms, spotting John, and eventually everything seemed back to normal. ...Except for the fact a worker saw me really immodest.

In fact, I could see someone in the back, standing in front of the counter where the old sleeping man used to be. Now, the old man was up and walking around the store great. He said a hello to me with a wave like he knew I was here the whole time. Creepy... Kind of like the time when I didn't want to tell my mom what happened at school, but she already knew.

"Hey!" John said greeting me, "That took a while! What happened?"

I tried keeping my eyes on Jack as I spoke to him, but my eyes kept darting to the strange man in front of the desk. Who was he? I recognized him...

"Oh, I just crashed into someone," I said referring to the man.

"Oh, well guess what? Mr. Hallow, finally woke up!"

"I can tell," I continued, my eyes still locked on the guy.

"What are you looking at?" John asked, suddenly realizing I was tottally lost.

I flipped back to reality realizing what John was doing. He would tottally be able to tell that I liked this dude. If he knew it was a guy, that would ruin our special fling!

"Wait!" I stammered, holding him back.

"What? What is it?" John asked repeatedly.

"Did you pay for the dress?"

"Um, yeah. But uh-"

"Ok, great! We must go now, we're going to be late! Go!" I said, pushing him to the front door.

I quickly got us out just in time before he noticed. I felt like I recognized this dude somewhere. ...And something told me I shouldn't let him see me, or who I was. ...It just didn't feel right. Could it be stranger danger? Maybe...

It was a starry sky tonight, a beautiful night for a full moon. Not only it would've been perfect, but tonight was also Halloween! And we were going to our Halloween party! The snacks, the music, the karaoke, the games, everything was going to turn out great.

But then I remembered... Angela was the host this year. I shook my head once again in disbelief. Couldn't they have found a better host? I mean seriously? Stepping in gum on the farm would be a better host for the party than her.

"Gosh, look at all the people? This may be the biggest turnout for the halloween party yet!" John said, opening with a smile.

I quickly scowled at him. The best party...? Did he even remember who hosted this?

I watched John shrug heplessly as someone interrupted our conversation.

I turned around. My stomach filled with dissappointment as I stood in front of Mrs. Hall, or as I wanted to call her, Angela. Though if I did, she'd do all the ruining to her party herself.

"Hi Johnny!" She smiled excitedly, not bothering to say hi to me.

She always did that! Ever since we stopped being friends she always had tried to ignore me, even if I was in front of her. It was the most idiotic thing. Seriously, let it go!

This year, she wore an immodest dress that showed her gianourmous breasts, shoulders, and legs. Talk about the first dress I saw... what a horror! Yes it was indeed.

She took one look at me and saw my Flo costume.

"Ugh," She stammered, rolling her eyes in idiocy. "Anyone could've picked a better outfit,"

"Excuse me?" I asked, suddenly offended.

"Come on John! Don't you want to dance with a mature lady?" Mrs. Hall asked, giving me one last look and putting on her pout face.

"Anna isn't-"

"Come on John! Let's dance!" She says, totally cutting him off.

She grabs his hand and takes him away from me as she leads him off to dance.

"Sorry," John mouthed.

I shrugged.

What could you do? It was Angela Hall. She was the most prettiest, nicest, and hottest girl on the farm that you could get. Others would kill for her. Plus, if you weren't interested, and you wanted to break up with her... I couldn't imagine the things she'd do to you by then. I really couldn't, boys were too cowardish to find out. So maybe that's why she took John away. Angela knew we had a thing and now she wants to ruin it. ...Typical.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey!" The D.J shouted, trying to get all of our attention.

Everyone looked up away from their dates.

"Who's ready to get the party started?"

"Whoo-Hoo!" The crowd cheered.

John was right, the crowd was bigger this time. Usually a few people would show up, tell their friends to come, and at the end of the party it be like this. It never starts out with so many people though. How did Angela do all this?

"Songs are still on the way, so who wants to come up here and do some karaoke?" The D.J shouted, holding up a microphone.

I looked away. I wanted to be a singer, but I have stage fright. I can only sing in front of John and a few of my closest gal-friends. It all started in the seventh grade.

It was the classes first karaoke party. Everyone had to sing at least one song. I practiced hard the day before so I didn't worry, I knew I was going to do great. Unfortunately, my voice cracked right on the high note. Never in my entire life, I felt so dissappointed. I wasn't nervous at all in fact, but once I hit that note, everything changed. Kids started laughing at me, pointing at me and kept whispering. I felt so worthless.

Believe it or not- that was the reason we moved. Stupid right? Well, after that I became known as the girl with the cracky voice. People even started calling me a witch. Only my closest friends stood by my side. But two friends in life... that's never enough.

"Me!" Angela shouted.

"Mrs. Hall! The host of this party!"

"Whoo!" The crowd quickly cheered, watching her come up.

Immediately John rushed to me.

"I'm sorry," He immediately said.

"It's okay," I sighed, watching Angela.

"By the way, you never told me why you were so distracted at the Halloween store." John brought up.

"I'll be singing, Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5!"

Maroon 5? Was it me, or did that song sound familiar... So what? I might've heard it before? Gosh, John is right, why am I so distracted today?

"It's nothing," I told John with a shrug, my eyes still on Mrs. Hall.

Something was up. Angela was the only person I told about my singing incident (Not even John!) since we were so close friends when I moved to the farm. But she had a plan. ...I could tell, she kept looking at me and John.

"Tell me!" John insisted.

"John, if I had something to tell you, I will. There is nothing wrong!" I said.

I felt lots of regret. I didn't want to lie, but it would ruin our fling, and our friendship. I lost too many friends already.

"Do you promise?" John asked.

"I promise," I lied, taking a step away from John. I couldn't look him in the eye when I said that.

The song finally pulled into an end as Angela bowed and curtsied. She was good. ...Like always.

"Wow! That was Mrs. Hall everyone!" The D.J said, smiling and nodding at Angela. "Any others who dare to compete against her?"

I looked around the party. Among all the people, no one dared to raise their hands. Not even brave Suzie.

Who would? You'd feel worthless if you lost, and if you won, she'll spook you for the rest of your miserable life. ...Which brings us back to the thought of being worthless.

"I know someone who would love to compete." Angela said grabbing the microphone.

Now here came her evil plan. She kept looking at me with some smirk. But she finally winked at me when she said, "She had always loved to sing since the seventh grade."

No, she wouldn't dare...

"Give it up for Anna everyone!"

My eyes narrowed down to the ground as I felt everyone's eyes on me.

How could she? She knew how I felt of singing since I moved here! If this was her plan for getting me in revenge, it was ridiculous. Why did she want to humiliate me? What did I do? Was it the fact that I had a John and she didn't?

I eyed the floor as I walked to the stage. Blue dots were all over the ground as the pattern. Spotless clean it was, I bet Angela spent two hours getting the floor ready for the whole party. Never had it been so clean... spotless.

I finally looked up to see the D.J waiting for me with a smile.

Angela walked up to me. Shoulder bumping me, she said with a whisper, "Good luck," I could feel the same annoying smirk on her face as she walked away.

I grabbed the microphone from the D.J, looking to the crowd. Everyone's eyes were on me. I finally spotted John... next to Angela. I knew to sing, I could only look at John. So I kept my eyes on him as I said everything.

"I'll sing... If I Die Young by The Band Perry."

" If I die young, bury me in satin

Lay me down on a bed of roses

Sink me in the river at dawn

Send me away with the words of a love song

Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother

She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors

Oh, and life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no

Ain't even gray, but she buries her baby

The sharp knife of a short life

Well, I've had just enough time

If I die young, bury me in satin

Lay me down on a bed of roses

Sink me in the river at dawn

Send me away with the words of a love song

The sharp knife of a short life

Well, I've had just enough time

And I'll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom

I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger

I've never known the loving of a man

But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand

There's a boy here in town, says he'll love me forever

Who would have thought forever could be severed by

The sharp knife of a short life

Well, I've had just enough time

So put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls

What I never did is done

A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I'll sell 'em for a dollar

They're worth so much more after I'm a goner

And maybe then you'll hear the words I been singing

Funny, when you're dead how people start listening

If I die young, bury me in satin

Lay me down on a bed of roses

Sink me in the river at dawn

Send me away with the words of a love song

The ballad of a dove

Go with peace and love

Gather up your tears, keep 'em in your pocket

Save them for a time when you're really gonna need them, oh

The sharp knife of a short life

Well, I've had just enough time

So put on your best, boys

And I'll wear my pearls," I finished.

All I could hear was the crowd cheering, my eyes still on John though. I finally smiled when he gave me a quick thumbs up smile.

Angela looked angry. Her eyes went crazy, like fire. Her arms had goosebumps like you just listened to an amazing song which made me smile prouder.

I watched her shoulder bump into John and running off in humiliation.

"Well, the winner in that case is Anna!" The D.J shouted.

"Whoo!" The crowd cheered.

I felt my cheeks go from normal to flushing warm. Was I blushing? I quickly smiled and made my rosy cheeks wash away as I walked back to John.

"You were great!" He said grabbing my wrists, pulling me forward. He forcefully wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me into a kiss.

His lips crushed into mine making me want to melt like candy. His lips... were sweet, definitley like candy. He grabbed my ear, going underneath my neck, circling patterns with his finger.

I quickly chuckled, turning back to where someone tapped me on the shoulder.

He was an older man, looking about thirty years old. His tight glasses on the tip of his nose though, made him look more like fifty. With dark hair, a sixty year old will surely stick with him.

"You have an amazing voice!" He complemented me.

"Thank you," I said, blushing once more.

"How would you feel to come to the Ramon C. Cortines School Of Visual And Performing Arts on a scholarship?" He asked.

Wait what? Did this man just asked me if I wanted a scholarship to the school of a lifetime? Of course I would go! Wait, was this a prank? Was he serious? He sure looked serious, but it didn't mean he was. Was he, or was it just a thing from Angela to humiliate me? Shouldn't he have more forms for me?

Once again, as if reading my mind, John questions, "Shouldn't you have forms for Anna?"

"Anna? Is that right?" The man asked, questioning my name.

"Yes sir," I smirked.

The man nodded, writing things on his clipboard. He handed a few colored sheets to me. One was an admission sheet for the school, another was a health care association, and the last was the scholarship permission.

"Mail these sheets to me at this address," He finalized, giving me a sticky note with his address.

This was serious!

"Thank you," I said blushing, even though it came out more as a whisper.

"No problem," He smirked back at me. With that, me and John watched as he slowly parted from us. ...Until he dissappeared into the foggy, misty night.
