Chapter 10
The name change

THE NAME CHANGE

Back in the day of Christ walked a man by the name of Saul who was a devout Jew.  He had a reputation that was feared by many and would be considered as a crazy dictator in our society today, kina like a Jew version of Hitler.  Christianity was called the way in that time.  He was even the one that witnessed the horrific stoning of the disciple Stephen who was the first disciple that died for the faith of Jesus Christ.  Saul believed that the Jewish religion was the only way to believe.

Saul would give threats and murder all who are of the faith of Jesus Christ.  Just like the dictator of the past, Hitler.  Who killed and in tortured the Jewish people.  So, now you can understand how the people that believed in the way (Christians) thought about him.   You should read the story in the bible and put it in your own words.  Starting in Acts chapter nine well come to think about it pretty much all the New Testament.

We all think we have tough days.  Put yourself in this guy’s shoes.  A man by the name of Ananias who is a servant of the lords that will do whatever is asked of him.  Being a Christian is very easy for most of us right.  Ananias got called on to just go inquire at the house of Judas for Saul of Tarsus.  Like I said, everybody that was of the Christian faith back then new of that name.  Can you imagine what is going through his mind?  You talk about having a little case of the butterflies.  He was to lay hands on Saul so he would regain sight.

He was like, “Sir, I have heard a lot about this guy, the harm he did to your Saints in Jerusalem.  And here he has the permission from the chief priest to restrain all called by your name (Christians).  Then God replied, “Go for he is a chosen vessel of mine to bear my name before Gentiles, Kings, and the children of Israel for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake. “  I thank God for just being born here in the land of the free.

The name Ananias was never mentioned again in the bible.  I don’t know about you but I would not have wanted him to see me.  I would have failed that little task.  I am very thankful that Ananias did that little bitty task.  That little thing turned into something major for our benefit.   Now take a look back and ask yourself.   Out of all thirteen of the letters that Saul AKA Paul wrote.  How many lives were saved?  Some say that he wrote Hebrews, but that has not been proven.

It does not give the reason why he changed his name from Saul to Paul.  I have not found it.  If you find it in the bible then please let me know.  I have given up the search.  Common since has me believing that he had such a bad reputation that everybody and their dog was really leery about seeing Saul aka Paul.
