Chapter 13

"I so don't want to do this," he kept muttering under his breath.

We were standing near the luggage carousel, not sure what gate they were coming from. My hand was laced in Jude's and I couldn't help but to focus on the way my palm fit with his and the way my fingers fit into the V of his own fingers instead of listening to him rant. I've never seen Jude this anxious before, about anything, and I've known him most of his life.

At fifteen he didn't even react to his parents' deaths as much as he did to his sister's arrival, but I guess that when you're a headstrong child who thinks that emotions are a weakness death is just another thing you can't react emotionally to.

Sighing, I pull him to me and wrap my arms around his waist, finally hearing nothing but the hustle and bustle of the airport as Jude's arms wrapped around my shoulders and he leaned his forehead against the top of my head.

"I didn't realize how tall you were," I whispered against his chest, smelling his soothing scent—a mix of chocolate Axe, Addidas body wash, deodorant, and just plain ol' boy.

"I didn't realize how short you were," he said and chuckled tensely, tipping my head back with one of his hands and kissing me lightly on the lips.

I smirked at him and said, "Jude, you know you're the best thing in my life right now, right?"

Jude frowned and touched his forehead to mine. "Don't say that," he whispered.

"Why not?"

"Because I'm not good enough to be told that, especially by you," was all he said before a voice said, "JUDE AARON RACIE GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!"

Jude spun around so fast that he pushed me off balance and I fell flat on my ass in a confused daze.

"Tonya," Jude gasped out, his voice sounding strangled like a boy's voice during puberty.

"Jude!" she yelled, running up to her brother and engulfing him in a hug.

I watched Jude from the floor, not bothering to get up. He stood stiffly in her embrace for a few awkward seconds before he woodenly put his arms around his sister, a stunned look on his handsome face.

His sister looked over at me on the ground and grinned broadly at me. "Bam!" she squealed, her sharp orangey eyes glowing with a happiness that the two siblings didn't share.

"Tonya!" I yelled back as Jude came to help me up, panic hidden in his wide eyes.

I don't ever think I've seen Jude this nervous before, I thought as I got to my feet and Tonya wrapped her arms around me tightly.

Jude's expression at that moment was priceless. I winked at him over his sister's shoulder before I pulled away and held her at arm's length, looking her slim figure over. Tonya was my height with her brother's eyes, ash-blond hair, rosy lips, and a body that was much thinner than the last time I saw her.

"Tonya you look great!" I said to her, smiling warmly.

She blushed and said, "So do you, Bam! It's been so long, you've grown so much!"

I laughed and flashed a smile at Jude, letting go of his sister and slipping under his arm, rubbing his lower back soothingly. He relaxed slightly at my touch and Tonya raised a brow at the two of us before saying, "Little romance while I was gone, huh?"

I just smirked and winked at her.

Tonya laughed as Jude said, a little quiver lacing his voice, "I heard you've had a little romance since I last saw you too, big sis."

Tonya's face began to glow with a huge-ass smile as she called out, "Kaiko, come out!"

A small figure strode shyly around the luggage carousel, her head bowed and her short black bob hiding her face as she came to stand next to Tonya.

Tonya took hold of the girl's small hand and said, "Jude this is Kaiko, my girlfriend. Kaiko, this is my little brother Jude."

I gently pushed a stunned Jude towards the tiny figure in encouragement.

The girl looked up at Jude cautiously with wide brown doe eyes. Her black short, chin-length bob framed her petite face nicely and the electric blue top she was wearing brought out her olivey skin tone as she put out her hand and in a thick accent said, "Nice to meet you, Jude."

Jude's hand slowly came out to grasp his sister's girlfriend's hand as he said, "It's nice to meet you, too, Kaiko."

He smirked at her and she gave him a shy smile and Tonya and I exchanged a knowing glance. This was a new beginning for Jude, a new change.
