Chapter 9
A New Home

Author's Note:  I'm so sorry this is so late and short.  I've been wicked busy so I wanted to keep you posted.  A new chapter will be up either late tonight or tommorow.  Thanks, ET!

Sunday was a lazy day.  I'd stopped going to church when Jordan died, and even if I wanted to go, I couldn't get out of bed.  But that night, Dad picked me up from bed and brought me out to the park.  It was about ten, and nobody was there.  I can't say I was happy about that, but it was better than if people had been there.  It would have been so embarressing had somebody seen Dad beat me, though I had no idea why he took me to the park to beat me.

"Ok, strip."  W-what?  Did he just ask me to strip?  "You heard me, strip."

"But, it's like, foutrey degrees out, I can see my breath."

"Do it.  Strip.  And keep your underwear on.  I don't need to see that."

So, I stripped down to my boxers, and Jeez! it was freezing out!  "D-Dad.  P-please, stop."

"Please, who's gonna hear your screams, Henry?" he spat.

Thinking quick, I said, "I'll tell the cops.  They're already suspicious."  Well, that sort of worked.

"Put your clothes back on.  You're not staying with us anymore, you selfish bastard."  Gee, thanks Dad.  Love you too.

That night, Dad dropped me off over at the Wess's home.

"But, Mr. Helen, we already have four children living here, and one at college, we can't afford to care for Henry as well.  Especially as Matthew is going to college next year as well,"  Mrs. Wess protested.

"Listen," my father's harsh voice boomed at her, "either you take care of him or he's going to the orphanage."

Mrs. Wess looked at me ruefully, then sighed, "C'mon in, Henry, hun.  You can stay on the couch."
