Loving You

Chapter 21
Xander

Tyler was making me sit with her mates at breaktimes and lunchtimes now. This breaktime, she had her arm around my waist and her head on my shoulder. "Oh, and by the way, Alex?" I couldn't get used to being called that.

"Yes, honey?" I said, through gritted teeth.

"We're going to Annabel's party on Saturday," She told me. Saturday? I couldn't. Not this Saturday. I was supposed to be staying at Axel's. I swallowed.

"Ty," She had me calling her by her nickname. "I can't. I've got plans. With... other people."

"Photo..." She mumbled. I gasped inwardly.

"But... I can cancel," I said. "Er...what time?"

"You can pick me up at seven, we'll walk there together. We should get back about eleven," She informed me. I felt like a bastard- I was blowing off my boyfriend, the person I loved most in the world, for some chick who I didn't even like. What was wrong with me?

I met Axel again at the end of the day. I stroked his cheek. "Babe... about Saturday. I'm gonna have to cancel."

"What?" He looked genuinely mortified. "Why?"

"Tyler's making me go to this party with her," I said. "I'm so sorry."

"Well... what time does it finish?" He asked. "You could always come a little later, if you wanted too?"

"Eleven,"

"I don't mind if you turn up then. Please, I just want to spend this night with you." He pleaded. There was a look in his eyes that I just couldn't refuse.

"Okay," I pulled him into me, and kissed him like it was the last thing I'd ever do.

I sat on the sofa at Annabel's house, with one arm reluctantly around Tyler, and a bottle of beer in the other hand. I didn't particularly want to be drunk when I turned up at Axel's, but the alcohol made it easier to sit with Tyler. She was in the middle of some story that was apparently hilarious. I forced myself to laugh when everybody else did, but I wasn't really listening at all. Suddenly, Tyler leaned her head on my shoulder and snuggled closer. I didn't react. She started playing with my hair. That was too much. Some guy- Jackson or Jacob or something- got to his feet. "I'm going for a fag. Anyone coming?"

"I am," I said, standing up. Tyler blinked at me.

"I didn't know you smoked," She said.

"I don't," I said, truthfully. "But I just need some fresh air. The loud music's doing my head in. I'll be back in a minute." I hugged her to keep up the facade and followed the guys (Jake? Jaden? No... Jordan!) out of the house and into the back garden. Jordan sparked up his cigarette then peered at me.

"So have you like... shagged Tyler yet?" He asked, casually.

"No," I replied.

"Seems you're the only guy in the year who hasn't," He said, blowing out a line of blue smoke. "Well. You and Axel Smith."

"Mm." I nodded.

"I honestly don't know why people don't like Axel," He surprised me by saying. "He's alright. Decent kind of bloke and that."

"Mm." I said again. I'd never been too sure about him, but I was starting to like Jordan.

"And I'm not just saying that because you're mates with him," He said, earnestly, looking me in the eye. "He really is a nice guy. I just never say so because..."

"Nicky?" I guessed. "Yeah, he's a bastard. He used to pick on my brother something rotten until I had a word with him."

"Didn't know you had a brother," He remarked.

"Yeah. Damon Riley in the year below us. Well, he's my foster brother," I shrugged.

"You're fostered? Didn't know that either,"

"Yeah, my mum couldn't cope. Dad cleared off well before I was born," I shrugged. "Stevie's brilliant though. I love her to bits."

"I like you, Xander," He said, smiling. "You're alright."

"I like you too, Jordan," I smiled back. "C'mon, lets go back inside. It's freezing out here."

Let's go back inside. What a mistake. I should've run while I had the chance. I went back into the living room, and sat beside Tyler. She put a hand on my cheek and turned my face so I was looking at her. She leaned in and pressed her lips against mine. That was beyond too far. I sprang away from her and shoved her off me at the same time. She stared at me for a minute then smirked.

"You are so gonna regret that," She said, pulling out her phone.
