World Behind the Glass
Author: Julia R. West

Chapter 12
Fireworks

The twilight is alive

On the fourth of July

To celebrate

Commemorate

The years that we've been free

And all I need is to shut my eyes

In order to believe

And there I am

So long ago

The booming and the bangs

Before we'd become who we are--

Before freedom rang

And there I am

So long ago

The crying and the fear

Before we'd happened on victory--

Before it all was clear

And there I am

So long ago

Fighting just like them

Before we realized we'd the upper hand--

Before we knew that was dumb

And there I am

So long ago

Another face in the crowd

Before the war was over and done--

When the gunshots were still loud

And when again my eyelids part

I'm a different person now

I figured out just what we were

And what fireworks are about
