Chapter 38

October passed and  November 5 came. Raucous noises could be heard coming from the halls as students were gossiping about Obama's election. Andy could hear some of the students making up nasty stuff like Obama was plotting to blow up the country because he's Muslim or how he was still planning on eating white babies. Andy didn't like Obama because of the way he looked, it was because he liked his ideas.
Palma walked up to him in her sky-blue turtleneck and white corduroys. The weather outside was cool. Everyone knew it was time to get out the jackets, turtlenecks, and sweaters.
"I got your text." she smiled, jumping into his arms.
"Yeah, I wanted to talk to you."
"About what?"
"Anything." he smiled. "Like what's going on?"
"What do you mean?" she asked, furrowing her blond eyebrows. "I've been happy."
Andy knew Palma had been upset several days ago, but she suddenly got over it. There had been situations where she had gotten extremely moody. At times when they would be together, she would breakdown into tears. He needed to know what was going on. He wondered if she was bipolar because one minute she was happy, the next minute she was crying. But she hadn't always been like that. She used to be really happy. Now she was a mess.
"You've cried this morning for no apparent reason." he explained. "Is there something wrong?"
"No!" she said exasperated. "Nothing's wrong!"
"Bullshit, Palma, there's something going on and you're not telling me!"
"Why don't you just mind your own fucking business!" she shouted, attracting attention from students.
"I can't! I care about you!"
"Well, guess what, you won't care for me anymore because this relationship is over with!"
"What?" he said, hardly believing what he had just heard. "You're joking."
Palma didn't even bother to answer. She turned on her heel and stormed off. A few snickers could be heard. He shot the bystanders a look and they immediately scurried along. He couldn't believe this. Did Palma just break up with him? A surge of sadness hit him. He didn't want it to end like this. He wanted Palma to be honest with him. He wasn't getting that.
