Chapter 3
Chapter Three

*Ashley’s POV*

How can she be so stupid and defend him once again? Does she honestly think that he is a good guy after all he did to us? I cant believe her! What doesn’t she get? I mean even Will told her, he knows, I know, and she knows. Maybe she is just in denial about the whole thing. That must be it.

I sat on my bed with my chin on my knees and arms wrapped around my legs thinking. Three hours ago I came home and found out fantastic news. Charlie, the dirt bag, was finally out of this house. Finally going to be out of our lives. Finally never coming home, that is, if my mom doesn’t decide she cant live without him and invites him back into our lives.

“Hey, love.” I jumped as I heard a voice coming two feet away from me.

My heart thumped wildly at an uneven pace and my breathing grew heavy. I gasped as I looked up at the man that stood before me and a sigh of relief escaped. “Don’t do that.” I hissed.

“I’m sorry. I should have known better than to do that.” He tossed himself on my bed causing the frame to hit the wall with a loud thump. “You think your mom heard that?” He asked worried he would get caught sneaking through the window and sleeping in my room with me. He comes over at least four times a week so there really is no point of being worried.

“You do that almost every night and no one comes. But keep your voice down, the walls are thick but they still might hear you.” I crawled over to where he lay and rested my head beside his.

After a few minutes of enjoying each others silent company, he spoke. “My letter from U of A came in today.”

“Well?” I asked.

“I got in.” By the tone in his voice I could tell that he was smiling.

“That’s great!” Lie. I kissed the side of his head. U of A? couldn’t he have waited until I finished high school to go to that college? We could of gone together, sure its not that far away, but I’ve seen the girls that go there. They’re all so pretty, skinny….have big chests. I frowned at that one.

“You okay with me going there?” He asked like he needed permission to go to the one place he dreamed about going to, his favorite football team.

I hesitated. “Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?”

“I don’t know.” He sat up. “Its pretty far away and we’ll hardly see each other.” He turned his head to look at me.

I sat up facing him. “Its your dream school. Don’t let me keep you from doing what you want, I’m just another girl that will most likely become an ex in the next few months or year or so.” I diverted my gaze towards the window. The night was dark, the only light to brighten the outside came from the street lights and porch lights.

“What?” His tone showed anger.

“Well its true. Most teen relationships don’t last.”

He cupped my chin with his big hands. I couldn’t help but look at him. “Why do you assume I’ll break up with you? I’m not one of those guys who just date for the fun, I want a solid relationship that will last and not crumble to pieces like most. I think you are the one and I truly want to spend the rest of my life with you. You are the most valuable treasure I have. You are the key to my heart and I trust you to care for it. You are the wind beneath my wings.” He let out a little laugh then grew serious again. “You are my other half and the half that completes me. Without you,” he shook his head. “I could not go on.”

I lifted my chin from his grasp. “Sure, you say that now. But what happens when you see another girl that you like? What then? What about after you have your way with me under the sheets?”

“Marry me.” He blurted out not a second after I asked my questions.

It took me a minute to comprehend what he had just said. “What?”

“Marry me. Then you will see that I’m not joking about wanting to spend forever with you. We can have a long engagement, five, ten years if you want to, it doesn’t matter how long to me because I have all the time in the world when I am with you.”

It grew hard for me to breath, my heart raced, and my eyes were filled with clear liquid. “Okay.” I said without thinking. “Yes!” I nodded my head repeatedly.

His smile made me grow weak, it was like getting hit by lightning, but without the pain. He cupped my cheeks and pulled me into a short kiss. “I love you.” He pulled me into a hug.

“I love you too.” I hugged him back, my eyes blank. What have I done?

*Lemon’s POV*

Ugh! I cant believe them! Why must they say all those awful things about our dad, my dad? Why do they hate him so much?

I lay on my bed looking up at the ceiling thinking. “He’ll come back. I know he will.” I nodded and told myself. “He loves us and it was just a stupid mistake he made.” I was reassuring myself.

I picked myself up from my bed and walked to the computer. I don’t need to worry about it, she’ll call him in a few days and he’ll come back, nothing will change. Everything will be as it was before today, I thought while I opened a new email message.

‘My Dearest Lemon Pie,

I know you may have heard about the little thing that happened. I am terribly sorry for hurting your mother like that and any of you. I was…confused…that night when I met Francine. Nothing had made any sense and I was in terrible need of attention, your mother wasn’t there, and she was.

Francine lives in Tucson and has three wonderful children-Lizzette, Ferris, and Ronny, I know you would like them, Francine is thirty and reminds me so much of you. I miss you, Lemon. Would you consider visiting? There are three extra bedrooms and a pool, there are stores close by, and a lot of neighbors with kids your age. it’s a real wonderful place, you would love it here.

Francine isn’t pregnant, but she does want another child, as do I. She wants a little girl she said she had so much fun raising Lizzette, and I cant disagree, I had many wonderful times with you and your sisters. How is your mother and brother? How is Ashley and Emalie? Did you guys pick her up yet from nanas? How are you love? Please write back.

Love your old man,

Dad’

I read the message from my dad and a single tear rolled down my face. I pressed the reply button and began to type:

‘Hey Dad,

I understand and I forgive you, give the others some time and I know they will too. We all love you and miss you too. Francine and the others sound wonderful and it wont hurt to meet them I guess. Another baby girl sounds wonderful! You were the best dad and she will be lucky to have a dad like you.

The others are fine and Emalie is still at nanas. We pick her up Friday, tomorrow. I hope you come home soon, Dad, I miss you already.

Love,

Lemon’

Send. I know it seems weird that I want to meet the woman my dad is sleeping with, but I want to. I want to go to Tucson and meet all of them, maybe even live with them. It would be nice to live with people that actually like him and see that he has never done anything wrong. I wonder what Kirby’s doing? The thought came randomly to mind.

I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and scrolled down to Kirby<3333. “Hey Kirb! What you doing?” I pressed the green send button.

A few minutes later he replied. “I was going to sleep.”

“Can I come over?” I sent ten seconds later.

Two minutes later I received his message. “I guess.”

I thought for a minute. “Are your parents home?”

“No.” He sent a follow up message. “They’re gone for three days. Why?”

“No reason.” I smiled to myself. “Don’t fall asleep, I have a surprise! <333”

“Surprise?”

“Yep!J you’ll have to wait and see what it is!J ”

“Okay…”

“Be over in ten.” I stood up, grabbed my shoes and slipped them on, and grabbed a jacket from the closet. I walked over to my door and locked it, then went over to my window. I climbed out of the window and ran till my house was out of site. I slowed to a walk and walked the path to Kirby’s, I cut some corners and went through some yards, jumped a brick wall, and cut through a few back alleys so I could avoid the police. Curfew is at ten or ten thirty, around that time, and you cant be out unless you’re eighteen or older, unless you’re with an adult, which, apparently, I wasn’t.

I walked up to his front door and knocked twice. While I waited I looked in the horizon to where the high school was. Safford High School. Our vice principal, Mrs. Moon, is a major bitch to everyone, or maybe she’s that way to me and the other kids that are always in trouble. I laughed to myself. I was in her office every day for ditching. The only time I wasn’t in her office is if I was ditching when she sent out the little pink slip.

The door opened behind me and a shirtless Kirby greeted me. I looked at him with awe. Sure he wasn’t muscular and skinny, not in a scrawny way, definitely not a sports person, but that’s what attracts me. that’s why I am attracted to him right now. I gave him a smile and walked up to him. He was apparently tired but I don’t care, I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him into kiss. “I’m your surprise.” I said after I let him go.

He looked at me with confused eyes. I have never kissed him or showed any interest in him until now, he kissed me once, but I slapped him and he never made a move on me since.

“I’m giving myself to you.” He simply smiled, grabbed my hands gently pulling me into the house, I closed the door behind me with my foot.
