When 18 year old Nathaniel Richardson is thrust into war to please his veteran father, his 17 year old girlfriend, Erin O'Malley, is forced to acclimate to a life without him. With only literary correspondence to connect them, the couple delves deeper into an unfriendly world of solitude and intolerance. Everything changes when a bomb rattles the battlefields of Baghdad. Now Erin faces his funeral alone, feeling like the widow who never had a husband. But 6,000 miles away in a hospital ward, a burned and disfigured young man can't remember his own name, nor that of the girl whose face haunts his dreams. Will fate step in and reunite two people who have stared death and isolation in the face? Or will the war claim their love as just another casualty?

There I lay on the soft bed, tears running down my face as I read the chapter. As I slowly started to grieve for the characters' own emotions. This is a good book, I whispered, this is a good book.
